The holiday season is a time for giving. Many non-profit organizations use the holiday season as a means to try to give more to those less fortunate. Some might want to be generous and charitable but just aren’t sure where or how they can do so. Here at Palermo Law, we wanted to inform you of a few charities here in Long Island, New York that you can donate to, to help others in need.

John Theissen Children’s Foundation

The JTCF is a children’s toy charity organization and has been operating for over 25 years. They have collected over one million new toys and have donated them to sick and underprivileged children in over 180 hospitals and child-care facilities. Some of the services they provide as a part of their charity is providing hospitals and child-car facilities with therapeutic and recreational equipment, providing families with financial assistance for medical expenses and offer sick and needy children with toys during the holiday season.

Now especially is a big time of the year for them as they are accepting donations and toys generously given to them so they can try to fulfill the wishlists of these sick and needy children. They are currently promoting their 28th annual toy drive for this holiday season. If you would like to donate money or unwrapped toys, click here.

The Harry Chaplin Foundation

Most recognized by his hits like Cats in the Cradle and Taxi, Harry Chapin during his life always encouraged his fans to do their part to make the world a better place. He dedicated half of his concert earnings towards fundraisers to fight hunger and poverty. Although he tragically passed in 1981, his legacy lives on to this day starting with the help of his former managers raising $150,000 at a benefit concert. Since then, Harry’s wife Sandy has been leading the Harry Chapin foundation.

The mission of the Harry Chapin Foundation is to support organizations that have demonstrated their ability to dramatically improve the lives and livelihood of people by helping them to become self-sufficient. If you would like to donate to this charity, based in Huntington New York, click here.

North Shore Animal League

Many during the holiday season are looking to add a new member to their family and want to get a pet. If this is the case for you or someone you know, why not try to adopt and rescue an animal looking for a home.

The North Shore Animal League’s mission is simple: Rescue. Nurture. Adopt. Educate. Because of their efforts, they have contributed to the rescuing of over one million animals, with about 18000 animals finding a loving home each year. They provide many means in which a person can help these animals including gift donations, financial planning, and medical sponsoring as well as adopting one of these animals as the newest addition to your family.

The holidays come and go so quickly. Perhaps it’s because of the rush that comes with the holidays – rushing to buy presents, prepare for family gatherings, and decorate your home all while many are still working full time. A lot of families stow away their decorations each year for reuse, including the electrical equipment they use for lighting up their homes with festive décor. But there may be safer products out there that reduce wire clutter, the risk of power shortages, and the risk of home fires.

The ESFi has offered up numerous online resources for shoppers, electrical safety, fire prevention, etc. for holiday decorators. We’d like our readers to follow their safety checklist.

Safety Checklist For Your Christmas Tree

Candle Safety Tips

Extension Cord Safety Checklist

Childproofing Checklist

Outside Decorating Safety Checklist

Indoor Decorating Safety Checklist

With all of these safety measures taken seriously, you shouldn’t have to worry electrical fires, candle fires, child accidents or any type of accidents taking place while you’re decorating your home or place of business.

We’d like to extend a warm Happy Holidays from Palermo Tuohy Bruno, P.L.L.C.
