What Should I Do If I’m Injured On Another Party’s Property?

We handle a variety of premises liability cases on Long Island. The most important steps you can take initially are as follows:

First, seek medical attention. Document all of your injuries as soon as possible and get the appropriate treatment.

Second, document the condition that caused your incident. If you tripped on a defective step take a photo. If you slipped on a spill in a supermarket, try and get a photo of the liquid. Also take pictures of the scene. Make sure it is clear in the photo where you were when you fell.

Third, gather all witness names and contact information. Often, people will stay around and offer to help. Ask for their contact information because once they leave the scene of the incident their identity may be lost forever.

Finally, contact our law firm right away. Don’t speak to insurance company representatives or defense attorneys on your own. Those statements are only being gathered to protect their client’s interests. Even if their client is clearly at fault, if they can get you to say something that helps them, it will used against you at a later date.
